Every fall, warehouses, distribution centres and manufacturers across the GTA ramp up. The challenge is rarely finding people. It is keeping them.
Start with a real orientation
A temporary worker who feels welcomed on day one is far more likely to show up on day ten. Walk them through the site, introduce their lead, and explain how their work fits the bigger picture.
Pay attention to the first 72 hours
Most early turnover happens in the first three shifts. Check in personally, ask what is unclear, and fix small frustrations fast.
- Confirm shift times and break schedules in writing
- Make sure PPE and equipment are ready before they arrive
- Give every new worker a go-to contact
Temporary does not mean disposable. The best employers treat every shift worker like a future full-time hire.
Recognize reliability
Simple recognition, like a shout-out at a huddle or first pick of extra shifts, builds loyalty quickly.
